Councillors voting for a 34% increase in councillor's allowances
The petition to stop the 34% increase in councillors' allowances being paid out until the number of councillors is reduced from 60 to 40 has topped the 1,000 signature mark.
Despite public outrage, councillors voted themselves the massive increase on 14 December.

When voting for the increase, the Conservatives proposed reducing the number of councillors, however the process is understood to be long and cumbersome and the petitioner, David Hennigan, wants the increases put on hold until - if or when - the number of councillors is reduced.
