Supermarket car park on Barton Road, Middleton
A 24-year-old man was left with deep lacerations to his nose and left cheek after being hit in the face with a glass object in a supermarket car park on Barton Road, Middleton.
The victim was standing outside the supermarket at around 2.05am on Saturday (17 December) when he was approached by two men.
Following a brief fight between the three, one of the men threw a cone at the victim who attempted to defend himself before running away.
As he was running, the victim fell to the floor and was hit in the face with a glass object, possibly a bottle.
The other man then stamped on and kicked the victim to the head and body as he lay on the ground.
Following the attack, the victim ran through Middleton Town Centre but was chased by the two attackers. They were disturbed by a passer-by and fled towards The Archers Pub on Kemp Street.
One of the men is described as mixed race, in his early 20s, of a medium build and between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall. His hair is shaved at the back and sides, with a curly perm on top. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, which was zipped down to the middle, and dark bottoms.
The other man is described as white, of a medium build and around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall with blonde, scruffy hair.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the assault to get in contact.
Detective Constable Mandy McPartland of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This is a prolonged attack that has left the victim with deep lacerations to his nose and left cheek.
“Not only will he have to adjust to life with the physical scarring, the psychological impact this has had on him will take him a long time to recover from.
“If anyone recognises this sequence of events involving the men described or anyone who has any information that would help us with our investigation, please get in touch.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 301 of 17/12/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
