Who would you call in a power cut?

New figures show that just 77% of people across Greater Manchester do not know who to contact in a power cut.

Nearly a year on from Storm Frank and Eva, in which 53,000 properties in the North West lost power due to flooding in the days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, has launched an awareness campaign urging people to store their contact details for an emergency.

The latest research shows that people from Greater Manchester have heard of Electricity North West, but only 9% know that they are the company responsible for ensuring a constant supply of power to homes in the region.

Electricity North West’s operations director for Greater Manchester, Mark Williamson, said: "We’re available for our customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and it’s important they contact us to report a power cut. Our contact centre team are available throughout the Christmas period to help our customers should they need to contact us.

“It’s never been easier for customers to get in touch after the launch of the new free national power cut number, 105. This is a valuable service but we need customers to use it to report a power cut, so we can do something about it.

“We can also provide additional assistance to customers during a power cut and support their individual requirements. Customers that may need additional assistance can sign up to our Priority Services Register now by visiting our website.”
