Party time for pensioners in Whitworth

Date published: 21 December 2016

Fifty senior citizens received royal treatment when they were invited into Whitworth High School for a Christmas party.

They dined on a selection of savoury treats and sandwiches created by the students who also waited on the tables.

Peter and Jean McDonough, from Whitworth, have attended the party for the last three years.

Peter said: “We have enjoyed a buffet lunch and the students have looked after us very well.”

Christine Mitton, from Whitworth, was attending the party for the first time.

She said: “My grandson Josh Lucas is at the school now so I decided to come along and I will be back as I have really enjoyed it.”

Head of Technology Jen Cawley said: “The Year 10 GCSE food students and some of the Year 7s prepared the savoury food.

“We also organised for performances by Year 7s led by Year 10 BTEC students as part of their coursework.

“The Youth Enterprise Team arranged a raffle.”

There was dancing and acrobatics, the school’s Brass Band entertained and Father Christmas also called in.
