Rotary collect shoe boxes full of gifts

Date published: 19 December 2016

Rochdale Rotarians have been collecting shoe boxes filled with gifts for needy families in Eastern Europe.

The shoe boxes are now being returned to a warehouse in large numbers filled with babywear, toys, children’s clothes and household goods.

David Smithard, from the Rotary Club of Rochdale, said: “We sort boxes into categories depending on their contents, stack them onto pallets and prepare them for dispatch to countries in Eastern Europe.

“The latest load of 13,000 boxes left the warehouse by lorry on 14 December destined for the Ukraine.

“Each box will go to a deserving child or family bringing them a little cheer this Christmas.”
