The School House Nursery First Nativity

Date published: 19 December 2016

With one donkey who fell asleep and another who crawled off to his parents, this probably wasn’t the Nativity as related in the New Testament. But there were few complaints from those who attended this performance at the Schoolhouse nursery.

“Our First Nativity” was performed by Little Farmers of the Long Street nursery. Each of the two performances played to packed houses, with standing room only.

It has been a Little Farmers’ project, aged between 3-5 years old creating, decorating and assembling most of the sets and scenery, and the parents provided fantastic costumes creating an unforgettable memory for family members and the nursery.

One such grandparent was Anne Howard from Middleton, who attended both performances featuring her granddaughter Caitlin. She said: “We thoroughly enjoyed it as much as the children.

“We are very proud and a little overwhelmed by how good they were! On the first performance Caitlin was apprehensive, especially with everyone watching, Chloe the star, as they walked in gave a reassuring hug and held hands, later on ask if she was ok. They love singing together and they have been practising at nursery and singing at home, it is a performance we will never forget”.

Nursery practitioner Sophie Hurst said: “The farmers have really enjoyed it. They’ve been getting excited throughout the week and have been saying, ‘My mummy or daddy is coming’.

“I am so proud of them, they were just wonderful, and it is great seeing them so happy.”
Fisherfield Childcare also sponsored this year’s journey round Middleton of Middleton Rotary Club’s Santa Sleigh, between 13 and 16 December.
