Bill Warwick hailed a hero following car crash

Date published: 16 December 2016

Bill Warwick was hailed a hero after going the extra mile to help a Middleton family whose car had been struck by a vehicle which was then abandoned.

Bill, a council officer, was quickly on the scene to ensure Chris Doleman and his wife and two young children were safe and well following the horror smash on Stanycliffe Lane.

He was joined by North Middleton Councillor Donna Williams and they both provided comfort and support to the young family.

With traffic building up, and the abandoned car in the middle of the road, Bill ensured it was safely moved out of the way and the highway cleared until the police arrived.

Along with Councillor Williams he stayed at the scene for over two hours to help provide reassurance to concerned local residents and Councillor Williams briefed the police about the incident.

Chris said: “On behalf of my family, I would like to thank Councillor Williams and Bill for their help. It’s the season of goodwill to all and they certainly went the extra mile to help out.”

Bill said: “I was glad to play my part in making sure everyone was safe and well following this nasty incident. Chris is a great bloke and it’s great that the story had a happy ending. The family can now look put this incident behind them and look forward to a nice Christmas. It’s nice to receive some praise but I was just doing my job to provide help and support.”
