Royal blessing for Korean War Veteran Colin Lee’s 60th Anniversary

Date published: 16 December 2016

Korean war veteran Colin Lee and his wife Marion Lee have received an anniversary card from the Queen after recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple were formally presented with the card on Sunday 27 November at Lancashire Veteran’s Association (LVA) headquarters, The Heywood Pub, by the Queen’s Greater Manchester representative Lieutenant Colonel Dixon MBE, TD, DL, Msc.

The presentation coincided with the joint celebration of Lancashire Day and Aden Day, organised by LVA chairman Harry Mills.

Mr Mills was also responsible for notifying Buckingham Palace of Mr and Mrs Lee’s anniversary.

He told Rochdale Online: ‘’When I heard that Colin had just celebrated his 60th anniversary with Marion I figured that they deserved some special recognition, so I sent a letter to Buckingham Palace, who responded within a week

‘’One of the reasons I thought Colin deserved special recognition is because he served in the Korean War, one which often gets forgotten or overshadowed by the more widely known conflicts.

‘’It was great of Lieutenant Colonel Dixon to come and formally present the card, her ongoing support for the Lancashire Veteran’s Association is highly appreciated’’.

Mr Colin Lee served in Korea for the Royal Navy from 1950-53 as part of a UN sanctioned coalition led by the US which provided military assistance to South Korea who had been invaded by communist North Korea.
