Robert Dobson walking to Manchester dressed as a parrot to raise money for animal shelters

Date published: 16 December 2016

Robert Dobson will walk 12.2 miles to Manchester city centre from Newhey dressed as a parrot to raise money to fund winter shelters at Birds of a Feather bird and animal sanctuary.

The sanctuary, which cares for a variety of animals including wild birds, domestic animals and livestock, needs to raise £800 to adapt the pig and sheep shelters which are not currently equipped to endure the cold winter weather.

Robert told Rochdale Online: ‘’We moved to our new location in Newhey from Norden earlier this year and while the livestock shelters have been great throughout the summer, they simply won’t be able to keep the animals warm when the temperature drops.

‘’Luckily the weather hasn’t been too bad so far, but if we get snowfall or if it gets colder than it has been, the pigs, who have nothing but skin and a very thin layer of hair to protect them, simply won’t be able to survive the cold.’’

Robert will do the walk Wednesday 21 December, and the sanctuary will be accepting donations online up until the 24 December.
