Hopwood Hall students sleigh poverty this Christmas

Date published: 14 December 2016

Students from Hopwood Hall College campuses in Rochdale and Middleton have been collecting money and new toys as donations for less fortunate children this Christmas.

Scooters, games, make up and toy cars were among the gifts filling up the donation boxes heading for children this Christmas.

Based on 2016 figures, Rochdale and Oldham are two of the most deprived areas in Greater Manchester.

Ammar Mahmood, a Mechanical Engineering student at Hopwood Hall College, was one of the local students who helped deliver the haul of donations to the depot in Trafford.

He said: “We live in communities that are more deprived than many other places in the country.

“It makes me feel very proud to try and help the situation by delivering our donations from the college to the Key 103 appeal.

“I think everyone gets upset when they stop and think about the position some children will be in the Christmas.

“If the donations from our college can make the Christmas of just one family better, then that has still changed someone’s world for a day.”
