Raising a racket for Macmillan

Date published: 13 December 2016

Parents joined their children at Rochdale Junior Badminton Club on Saturday (10 December) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Up to 80 people turned up to either play or support the event helping raise  £250. All proceeds from the day were donated.

The event was held as part of the national campaign by Badminton England to raise funds for Badminton4Macmillan week.

Bob Heaton, club chairman, said: "This is the first charitable event we've held at the club and it was excellent to see so many people turn out and give so generously. I do hope this is the start of many future charitable events."

Joanne White, mum of two badminton players, said: "A fabulous session whilst having fun, keeping fit and raising money for a very worthwhile cause."

Rochdale Junior Badminton Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of six and 16 to receive coaching and competition in tournaments and the Greater Manchester Junior League.
