St Chad's hosting ITV Christmas Carol Service

Date published: 12 December 2016

The historic parish church of St Chad's, Rochdale's Parish Church, is hosting ITVs Christmas Eve Carol Service.

Aled Jones and West End singer Shaun Escoffery will sing Christmas ballads and readings are given by Coronation Street actress Rhea Bailey and Olympic Gold Medallist Nicola White.

Filming took place last week and the service will be broadcast nationally on Christmas Eve.

Church Secretary Paul Bollington, who sings in the choir, said: "We are delighted that our church was chosen as the setting for this wonderful occasion."

Mr Bollington added: "This was a wonderful opportunity for St Chad’s and a splendid high profile event for the town.

"I am sure everyone will enjoy this service, and to see one of the oldest buildings in the region looking so beautiful and sounding full of the joy of Christmas."

Rochdale Parish Church of St Chad is over 800 years old and previous visitors have included Oliver Cromwell, HM The Queen and local legend Dame Gracie Fields, who was christened at St Chads and lived in the Parish.
