Kirky Kitchen cooks up a treat for residents

Councillor Richard Farnell joins Rev Angela Bryan, helpets and customers at the Kirky Kitchen
Kirky Kitchen has cooked up a recipe for success at their St Thomas’ Church base on the Kirkholt estate.
The project, the brainchild of local vicar Angela Bryan, is going from strength to strength.
The unique community café only asks people using the facility to ‘pay for their stay’ as opposed to paying cash for what they eat.
To eat and drink whatever they like from the displayed grub residents simply pay 3p for every minute they’re at the Gainsborough Drive church. And they are turning up in droves.
Council leader Councillor Richard Farnell popped into the cafe earlier this week to sample the menu.
He said: “I’m so pleased Angela and her team have made this unique community cafe the success it is. There was never a doubt in my mind that it would, however, what’s on offer is just unbelievable.
“Where else would you be able to get everything from cereal, fruit, toast, pastries, tea, coffee and juice in a warm, welcoming environment for 3p a minute. It’s such a bargain.
“It’s really taking off as word spreads about Kirky Kitchen and the excellent work Angela and her team are doing at St Thomas’s; long may it continue.”
