Councillors received over £730k in allowances

Rochdale Borough Council paid out over £730,000 on allowances and expenses for councillors in the financial year ended April 2016.

A breakdown shows each of the Borough’s 60 councillors received a basic allowance of £7,644, with some getting more because of their committee roles.

Council leader Richard Farnell received over £31,000 for the year.

The Council is considering increasing the basic allowance paid to councillors by 34%.
