A 30-year-old man has been taken to Salford Royal Hospital with serious head injuries after a collision on Bury and Rochdale Old Road near Jericho.

The man was hit by a black Volkswagen at 2.20pm on Monday afternoon whilst he was leading a horse out of a horsebox. The horse bolted and was later recovered without injuries.

Due to the collision Bury and Rochdale Old Road, B6222, is closed at Elbut Road and diversions are taking place along Bamford Road in Heywood.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the road is still closed with traffic officers in the area.

The air ambulance attended the scene but was not used.
