Mum thanks those who helped her son after he was hit by a van

Date published: 28 November 2016

Victoria Lewis has thanked everyone who helped her son, Callum, after he was hit by a van on Tonacliffe Road at 7.30am on Tuesday 22 November.

She said: “A big, big thank you to all who helped Callum. It was good of you. I thought he was dead, because he was lying there motionless. He will be okay, he’s alive.”

Callum, 15, was taken to Rochdale Infirmary with cuts to his legs and foot and broken bones in his hands. It is understood he was hit from behind by the driver, who called the ambulance and stayed on the scene until the police arrived.

An eyewitness said: “The lady across the road was very kind and kept speaking to him and another kind chap went to get his mum.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance confirmed the collision between a pedestrian and the van.
