Statement from Deputy PCC in response to Chancellor's Autumn Statement

Date published: 23 November 2016

Responding to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle said: “It’s disappointing that Chancellor Philip Hammond had the opportunity to protect policing and invest in the safety of our communities, yet chose to continue with a cuts budget – cuts that have already stripped the local policing service to the bone.

“Today’s statement confirms that the police budget for Greater Manchester will be cut by a further £22m next year, on top of the £30m already axed this year – the equivalent of more 1,000 police officers.

“We’re pleased that the Chancellor has listened to the Commissioner’s call for additional funding for the prison service and modernising the criminal justice system.

"Tony Lloyd intends to have urgent discussions with the Treasury so we can see the plans in detail and ensure they will benefit the people Greater Manchester.”
