Rochdale Road in Royton closed due to sinkhole

Rochdale Road (A671) between The Halfway House pub and Thorncliffe Park in Royton has been closed in both directions due to a large sinkhole in the road this morning, Wednesday 23 November.

Traffic travelling along Oldham Road from Rochdale to Royton and Oldham will be affected.

Oldham Council is warning motorists to avoid the area.

Diversions are in place via Shaw Road, Royton; Crompton Way and Rochdale Road, Shaw; and Broad Lane, Rochdale.

An Oldham Council spokesperson said: "Council workers and United Utilities staff are on site assessing the damage and more information will be made available when we have it."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that GMP is at the scene.
