Team Karting takes delivery of twin-seater go-kart

Date published: 19 November 2016

Team Karting Rochdale has taken delivery of its first twin-seater go-kart.

For the first time, disabled children and young adults are now able to have fun on Team Karting's indoor track sitting alongside expert instructors.

The kart has dual controls so they'll be able to help steer whilst the instructor operates the pedals.

Team Karting's Matty Street explained: "A few months ago I met someone very inspiring. His name is Jonathan, he's 24 and has cerebral palsy, resulting in him living his whole life in a wheelchair.

"Despite this Jonathan aspires to push the boundaries and defy all odds. He is aiming to drive a go kart and race around Team Karting's track.

"We set our sights on getting a two seater go kart and a hoist, to allow his goal to happen.

"Jonathan is a huge petrol head who refuses to let his disability stop his aspirations. Spending only an hour with him he motivated me to fight his corner and get him racing.

"Every now and then, someone comes along who makes you think about things in a whole different way. These people are rule breakers who refuse to accept the 'way things are'. They challenge the accepted norms. They are so incredibly inspiring, they make you feel really very humble. Jonathan really is incredible; we at Team Karting are proud to have met him."
