Student police officers placements in Rochdale

Date published: 17 November 2016

As part of their placements, student police officers PC Jonathon Cross, PC Kyle Chadwick, PC Christine McCarthy and PC Waseem Mir visited the Bilal mosque (hosted by PC Tuseef Ahmed of Middleton), KYP on Belfield Road, the Youth Offending Team and the CCTV control room.

Prior to their studentship, PCs McCarthy and Mir were Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) at Rochdale. PC Cross was a Special Constable at Rochdale and Middleton, and PC Chadwick was a PCSO in Ashton-under-Lyne.

PC Chadwick said: "I am looking forward to a new challenge at Rochdale, supporting the community and working with the vulnerable people within it."

PC McCarthy said: "I worked at Rochdale as a PCSO for six years, and I am very much looking forward to coming back to the borough as a Police Constable."

PC Cross, whose father is a former officer, said: "Having been a Special Constable in my spare time for the last three years I am very happy to achieve my goal of a full-time career in policing."

PC Mir, whose father is recently retired Chief Inspector Mir of the Rochdale Division, said: "I am fulfilling a boyhood dream in joining GMP and coming to Rochdale. My father's shoes are big ones to fill but I am determined to continue his good work in the community in Rochdale."

The students will return to Rochdale for final training and assessments in March 2017, a ten-week period of 'on the job' learning and assessment where they must demonstrate competency in various fields, including dealing with victims and witnesses, and conducting arrests.
