Blocked drains cause flooding in Heywood and Castleton

Date published: 14 November 2016

Castleton was flooded on Saturday morning on Manchester Road near Nixon Street and The Royal Toby Hotel.

John Dawson from D&W Cars on Manchester Road said: “A taxi was stuck in the flood and road closed signs had been set up at 8.50am, with a diversion to avoid the affected area, by the council.

"The council then tried to clear the drains."

Heywood town centre was also flooded outside Heywood Civic Hall on Lance Corporal Stephen Shaw MC Way (Church Street), St Luke's Church, Heywood Library and the traffic lights area were all affected by 7.00am Saturday.

Residents were reporting that the council was ‘battling to clear the drains/sewers’ at 6.45am and ‘there were so many leaves it's not surprising if the drains are blocked’.

It was also reported that Heap Bridge was flooded at 6.00am.
