Blocked drain finally clear

Date published: 14 November 2016

A blocked drain at the bottom of Thornham New Road, near the Junction Inn, has only just been cleared today (Friday 11 November), despite being reported several times since May.

Councillor Billy Sheerin confirmed the drain as being clear after he went to view in person.

Resident Steve Sanderson first reported the blockage in May and then again in August, but was told the subcontractors had cleared it on 16 August after being reported by both Steve and Councillor Billy Sheerin.

Despite this, the drain remained blocked with paint from the road markings covering the mud and long grass sprouting from beneath the grid.

Concern about flooding had been raised by Steve, as he says that section of road is prone to flooding due to the geography of the area.

He said: “Considering I first reported it in May, it’s not very good service.”
