Firework crashes through conservatory roof

Date published: 11 November 2016

Anne Midgely is calling for people to understand the risks of ‘cheap imported’ fireworks after a rocket crashed through her conservatory roof on Bertha Road on Saturday (5 November) evening.

The rocket is thought to have been lit on Palatine Street, near to where Anne lives. As it came back down, it came through the roof of her conservatory where it then landed on the rug.

She said: “This is where I change my 12-week-old grandson and where our dog sleeps. Luckily, no-one was in at the time.

“I don’t think people realise how dangerous these cheap imported fireworks can be; they need banning before real damage is done.”

Anne now needs the entire conservatory roof repairing due to the hole. This is expected to cost around £250 if the incident is covered by insurance, rising to £1,000 if not.
