Seven men from Rochdale, Adill Iqbal, Subhaan Ali, Abnaan Ali, Kashif Ulhaq, Saim Rauf, Zunnair Alam, and Mohammed Umar Naveed, are among thirty men attempting to climb Mount Snowdon to raise money for the Guidance Hub charity.
The climb, which will see participants take on the highest mountain in Wales, at 1,085m (3,560ft), takes place on Sunday 27 November.
Recent surveys show Snowdon to be the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland; it is one of three mountains climbed as part of the ‘National Three Peaks Challenge’.
Adill Iqbal, who set up the ‘Man versus Mountain’ crowdfunding page, said: “We want to secure a community hub. Guidance Hub is in the final stages of doing this and we want to help in their aim to provide prayer facilities, an educational suite, a youth club, and much more.
“The climb is going to be tough, especially in the gruelling weather, but it’ll be easy in comparison to what we’re aiming to do for the community. We’re all really looking forward to it.”
Guidance Hub is an organisation which aims to raise money in aid of developing a better community. The charity operates in Greater Manchester and has previously organised many successful fundraising events across the borough, including street and graveyard clean ups and sporting events such as exhibition cricket matches.
The fundraising target is £10,000.
