A 69-year-old man has died after a serious collision involving a Ford Transit pick up in Heywood.

Shortly before 6.30am on Thursday 10 November 2016, police were called to Bridge Street at the junction of Peel Street to reports of a collision involving a pick-up truck and a pedestrian.

He was taken to hospital where he died.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Shore, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic turn of events that has resulted in a man losing his life. Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full facts around what has happened.

“This happened in the early hours of the morning when people would have been driving to work and may have seen something.

“I would urge anyone who was driving in the area at the time or has dashcam footage of the collision to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 311 of 10/11/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
