Lighthouse Project gets one month's grace

Date published: 10 November 2016

Last week it was reported that the Lighthouse Project would have to close its activities at Cromer Mill by 12 November, however in last minute discussions the owners, Pin Property Consultancy, has given them a breathing space of one month to sort out alternative accommodation options' which means for now they can say ‘everything is business as usual.’

Carl Roach, Development Manager, said: “This is good news for all of our visitors who can continue to take advantage of the many activities and support services on offer such as CV writing, employability support, basic computer classes and social and leisure activities.

"This coming month is also the busiest time of the year for Middleton Central Foodbank which is based with the Lighthouse Project and in the run up to the Christmas season we see a massive increase in our food donations including the upcoming National Tesco collection between 1-3 December, and an increase in demand for emergency food parcels from families and individuals who find themselves experience food crisis.

"We recently received a large donation of food from a young girl called Abigail Walker who was so concerned about seeing people going hungry when out shopping with her family that she set up an online giving page with the aim of raising £1000 to buy food for Middleton Central Foodbank.

"On Monday we took delivery of the first lot of food her fundraising has bought, it was 251kg equivalent to 600 meals. We are so grateful for the generosity of people towards those in need.

"The half-yearly reports from the Trussell Trust, released 8th November, show that nationally over 500,000 three day emergency food parcels have already been given out to families through their foodbank network since April, including over 188,500 to children, which is indicative of the ongoing need.

“This period of grace is a welcome relief as we still have not been able to confirm an alternative location for the project, we are pursuing several options just now which obviously take time to sort through, we appreciate the support that Pin Property Consultancy are giving to us at this difficult time.”

The Lighthouse Project is giving a voice to its supporters through the use of an online petition of support which allows people to stand with the Lighthouse and to and add their positive comments about how the project is helping people get back on track:
