Remembrance Day

Students in the Den, in conjunction with the History Department, created this wreath to remember those who died in war. They used the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website (http://www.cwgc.org) to search for war dead, then filtered the results to find people from Rochdale specifically. Each individual poppy has the name of a local man who gave his life during the two World Wars. We will remember them.

PE news

The football teams have been out in full force this week.

Year 7 boys’ football team

Congratulations to our Year 7 boys’ team who gave an excellent performance against a strong Holy Family team. We won 4 - 2 to go into the winter break top of the league.

Year 11 boys’ football team

The Year 11 team played Hollingworth in a double header on Monday night. The pitch was almost unfit and the conditions were extremely cold.

The boys started off well and had Hollingworth under constant pressure with Fabio Tavares causing them many problems.
Ashworth was trying to put the Cuthbert's defence under pressure but he had little support and the back four contained him quite well. Just before half time a quick kick downfield by keeper Jack Kelly and a flick on by Ged Greaves saw Tavares behind the Hollingworth defence and he finished with aplomb.

Kelvin Ade-Coker came on at half time and he had a good chance with a header from a corner but he put it straight at the keeper. Tavares then scored a second after nice work from Faith Okundaye but he squandered three chances to complete his hat trick before finally managing to score his third just before the end. Tom Liversedge left his defensive duties in search of a goal but his finish did not match the quality of the build-up.

Ade-Coker had the final word when he shot from 12 yards, we are still looking for the ball in the farmer's field! A 3-0 win means the boys have now won all four league games and are well on the way to retaining the league title.

Under 14's girls football team

The Under 14's girls football team got their football season off to a positive start in the Rochdale Schools League with a 2-0 win over Beech House followed by a 3-0 win over Siddal Moor with the goals scored by Mia Connellan and Daisy O'Neill and a couple of impressive stops from Caragh Ridgway.

They then faced a tougher challenge in the shape of Cardinal Langley. In spite of some fluent passing and moving from Mia Connellan, Imogen Marshall and Emma Fortnum and excellent finishing from Daisy O'Neill, the girls were unfortunate to come out beaten 4-2 following some excellent finishing from the Cardinal Langley centre forward.

The final game of the evening against Middleton ended in a 2-0 defeat with outstanding defending from Maia Perez-Burke, Georgina Flint, Amy Hardman Elliot and Pamela Sadeki.

Geography Club is here

Every Friday at 1.15pm, students are welcome to come along to our creative and interactive Geography club. We will be using play-doh to create the relief of the British Isles, we’ll be looking at fair trade food and food tasting as well as creating volcanoes and watching them erupt!

Anti-Bullying Week

Next week is anti-bullying week. Our staff and students in our nurture centre, The DEN are very busy preparing lots of exciting resources and activities that will raise awareness of anti-bullying. Staff are also invited to wear blue items of clothing for ‘Blue Monday’ as statistically, Mondays are the day of week when most bullying is reported across the UK. St. Cuthbert’s are committed to ensuring our students are safe happy and successful during their time here – be sure to catch up with our news next week as we showcase the work of our fantastic students.
