Sea Cadets enjoy team building day with Alternate Forces

Date published: 09 November 2016

The Rochdale Sea Cadets took part in a full day of team building, which began with a few small warm up games that included team races and problem solving activities.

Team Two made a promising start, in the lead from the offset.

The day progressed to raft building before lunch where the cadets of Team Two, led by Rochdale’s CO Mark Stephens, decided to initially design their raft on paper whilst Team One, led by Sgt Alan Gibson used trial and error.

The rivalry began to get heated between the two team leaders as they exchanged their views on design.

Once trialling the rafts, Team Two found that their craft didn’t get them to the first checkpoint, with team members swimming to save barrels.

Sgt Gibson was delighted to find that Team One’s raft made it all the way to the home straight before the team members found themselves swimming for the shore.

Activities on the water continued with teams racing each other across the harbour using just a rope and two barrels. This time it was Team Two that took pole position after Team One spent the majority of the time given floating in the wrong direction.

The battle for a win was heating up, so much so that both team leaders were penalised for cheating.

The final activity, the ‘Pugil Challenge’ was a grand finale to an excellent day. This resulted in Team Two taking gold much to the delight of CO Mark Stephens while Sgt Gibson’s team came second, trailing 26 – 9.
