ICT course at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 02 November 2016

Learners completed their ten-week ICT and tablets course at the Deeplish Community Centre with a small presentation, all who attended were given certificates for completing the course.

Councillor Allen Brett attended the presentation and spoke to learners about the use of tablets and computers. He also discussed the benefits of using emails and how people can contact him via emails.

This course was provided by Pride Media (Jonathan Burns Learning Centre) based at Rochdale CVS. Learners were shown how to use a tablet, search the internet and export pictures.

For some of the learners it was their first time to use a tablet.

Community Trainer, Karen Oliver said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the tablet courses which I have delivered at Deeplish Community Centre.

“The learners were really keen to learn and the staff has been a pleasure to work with and I have received very positive feedback form the learners who have told me how much they have learnt and enjoyed the course.

“I must say that it has been a pleasure to work with the learners and help them to progress with their IT skills in this very busy and well run centre.”

Sohail Ahmad, Centre Manager, said: “We are pleased to offer this course to our learners which enable them to learn and improve their ICT skills.

“This also helps them to connect with many opportunities such as job searches, information about local services and even to do their shopping and connecting with council services and councillors.

“We aim to provide many other courses such as this using modern tablets and getting new users to start using technology. This will also help parents to help their children accessing on line learning and completing their home work for schools.

“There is still a great deal of need to educate parents as most parents do not use ICT due to their basic skills and confidence and its very important for parents to know about ICT and technology and to monitor younger children using computers and tablets at home.”
