Heywood in Bloom win Gold Medal Award in this year’s RHS North West in Bloom

Date published: 31 October 2016

Heywood in Bloom won a Gold Medal award for their entry into this year’s RHS North West in Bloom competition.

Chairwoman Ellen Wintle-Yates said: “We have worked hard to reach the standard of Gold and we want to thank everyone who has been involved with this year’s entry.

“The support we receive and the local sponsorship mean we have been able to add more new displays each year. We have recently worked with Heywood Rotary by buying and planting 10,000 purple crocus bulbs. These spring flowering bulbs have added to the 5,000 bulbs purchased by Heywood Rotary to celebrate the worldwide campaign to eradicate polio.

“As a team we have been working to help improve the environment across Heywood for the enjoyment of those who live and work here.

"This year has seen a lot of new planting around town with new planters being erected.

"We would like to thank our town centre gardener Simon and Ian Trickett along with our environmental team for all their help across the town centre”

“We attended the Neighbourhood Awards on Wednesday to collect six awards, four of these where top awards level five outstanding.

“Heywood in Bloom are proud and excited to have returned with four Gold Medal awards and two Silver Gilt on Friday:

  • Heywood Distribution Park - Gold
  • Queens Park - Gold
  • TOPS The Old Police Station - Gold
  • Crown Oil - Silver Gilt
  • Mike Goldrick Windows & Blinds - Silver Gilt

“We would like to congratulate Rochdale in Bloom and Pennines in Bloom on their success this year with Rochdale also winning gold.

“We are already working on our rout for 2017 and looking for new sponsors we would also like to expand our group of volunteers.”
