Beavers, cubs and scouts from the 8th Heywood group, based at St Luke’s Scout Hut on Starkey Street, held a car wash, coffee and cake event on Sunday to help them raise funds for upcoming camping trips.

The scouts are fundraising to enable them to go their first ever Jamboree, AJ17 – which is Scotland’s biggest summer camp, next summer.

The car wash, coffee and cake event raised £276.67.

Connor Marshall, a scout aged 11, said: “I can’t wait for the Jamboree, and now we’re a step closer because we’ve raised this money.”

Steph Banks, group scout leader, said: “Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

"Jamborees are a huge part of scouting and it’s great that we can give our scouts this fabulous opportunity.”

Scout leader Malcolm Fallon added: “We’d also like to thank Cleansweep UK for their jet-wash, and Rothwells Coaches for access to their water supply, it’s very much appreciated.”
