Renovation of St Luke's Scout and Guide Hut

Date published: 24 October 2016

The Scout and Guide Hut in Heywood is in desperate need of repair, over 110 children, from age five to 21, meet on a weekly basis.

Through to the second round of the Aviva Community Fund they need your help to get as many votes as possible.

Andrew Weekes, St Luke's Heywood, said: “We have been lucky enough to get through to the second round of the Aviva Community Fund but we now need your help, for this round, we have to get as many votes as we can. The top voted for projects will go through to the next round.

“We need the support from local people to help us do this, please support us here:

“St Luke's Scouts and Guides meet in a small timber-framed building which was first built in 1981 with an estimated survival time of 15 years. We have now used this very building for 35 years and hope to continue to use it for the foreseeable future. As you can imagine, this building has taken a beating from the unpredictable weather.

“A few years ago, we managed to fundraise enough to have the front and side of the building repaired and replaced with new timber, with the rotten materials removed. This has substantially improved the appearance and warmth of the building. Which has then improved the experience of the children.

“We are now raising funds to complete the work for the rear and other side. We have received a quote for the work and so far, we have managed to raise £2,500 but remain a long way from our goal. The funds raised will cover the purchase of the materials and all labour involved.

“Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated and go a long way to securing our long-term future as a thriving organization which brings so much to the children of the community.”
