Free tour of Man United’s Old Trafford plus Free entry into Museum of Science & Industry for disabled children in Rochdale

Caudwell Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, has announced that it is to deliver a free half-term ‘Activity Club’, for children with additional needs, in Rochdale.

The club will see participants enjoying a behind the scenes tour of Old Trafford, home of Manchester United FC, exploring the exhibitions of the Museum of Science and Industry, in Manchester, and meeting a range of animals at Lancaster Park & Animal Farm, in Chadderton.

The club is scheduled to run from Tuesday 25 - Thursday 27 October, 2016, and the charity says it’s an important resource for the town.

Steffi Brown, Community Projects Coordinator for Caudwell Children, says that she’s keen to hear from the parents of children and young people who would benefit from attending the club. She said: “This is a fantastic initiative but as yet we have had little response from the parents of disabled children and young people in the town.

“Given how hard we’ve worked to secure the funding for the club I would like more children to enrol so that we can continue to offer the service in the school holidays. It would be a tragedy if disabled children in the town lost the opportunity to experience our activity days.”

Ms Brown says that she can’t understand why more people have not registered on the programme as it’s packed with "exciting, fun days out". She added: “The club will see participants taking part in some brilliant activities at a variety of locations in and around Manchester.

“During the three days we’ll spend time touring one of the greatest football stadiums in the world. You’ll get to sit in the dugout where Jose Mourinho sits, see the FA Cup and Community Shield up close and personal, and look at the stadium through the eyes of the greats.

“During the trip to the Museum of Science and Industry, children will get the chance to take part in a ‘Spy Mission themed Treasure Trail’. They’ll have to solve some clues, sneakily located on buildings and monuments around the site, to crack the code and complete the mission like a true secret agent.

“The farm session will see the club visiting Lancaster Park Farm, where children and young people will get the chance to handle a variety of animals including: Ducks, rabbits, pygmy goats, mice, tortoise and ponies.”

Caudwell Children’s half-term ‘Activity Club’ is ASDAN accredited as part of their Key Steps Award.

ASDAN is a pioneering curriculum development organisation and awarding body which ensures that accredited programmes grow skills for learning, employment and life.

“Many parents struggle to keep their children entertained over the school holidays,” concluded Steffi. “So we’re making it really easy for them and we’re even covering the transport costs to and from Manchester. It will be heart-breaking if we can’t fill all the places that we have.”
