Rochdale Gin Festival

Date published: 16 October 2016

Rochdale Town Hall played host to a Gin Festival this weekend (Friday 14 and Saturday 15 October).

Over 100 varieties of gin were provided across four bars: traditional served at two, international and liquor. An ‘off-licence’ selling nuts and crisps, and a cocktail bar were also on offer.

A doorman said: “It’s been packed out; people were queuing an hour before to get in.”

Each guest received a wine glass with a Gin Festival 2016 logo, a small ‘Gin Book’ detailing each type on offer, and a small goody bag.

Musical entertainment was provided on the stage of the busy Grand Hall.

Councillor Janet Emsley, Rochdale Borough Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and Wellbeing, said: "Good time had by all. Thanks to Sue Milne at Rochdale Council for organising it.

Sue Milne, Council Events Coordinator added: "Great event, great team effort."

Gizelle Maduri, event manager said: “Where people want gin, we go! It was our first time in Rochdale and was a huge success with 3 sold-out sessions. We just love gin and bringing it to those who feel the same.”

The Gin Festival started in 2012 when husband and wife team Jim and Marie Harris started their own event after realising nothing reflected their adoration for gin.

Their online store is now the world’s biggest gin store, stocking over 200 varieties.
