'Cause this is thriller, thriller night - Empire 80s night

Date published: 16 October 2016

The Empire nightclub in Rochdale town centre brought back the 80s on Saturday (15 October) night - following a successful 70s night.

Nightclub-goers danced to tracks by Michael Jackson, Starship, Spandau Ballet, Wham!, The Cure, Soft Cell and Eurythmics.

Bar staff wore fluorescent tutus, hair bows and beaded necklaces. Several clubbers wore bright legwarmers, leopard prints, metallic jackets and tracksuit tops.

Posters depicting 80s movies and television shows, like Robocop, the Goonies and Only Fools and Horses adorned the walls.

Inflatable Rubik’s cubes and balloons decorated each table, with cassette tape cut-outs scattered around.

Empire owner, Paul Whitham, who dressed for the occasion in an icy-blue shell suit, said: “I’m looking at doing a different themed night every few weeks or so, as the 70s night was so popular.”
