New school at Heap Fold Farm for 2017

Date published: 13 October 2016

A new school is set to be built on Heap Fold Farm in Heywood - proposed to open in September 2017.

A meeting was held on Wednesday (12 October) at the Heady Hill Community Centre to present the proposals to residents.

The school will replace Heap Bridge Village Primary School, which was built in 1888 and became a school in 1912.

It has a capacity of 175 pupils; the new school will allow approximately 45 more pupils. Facilities will also include a nursery and a multi-use games area.

It has been suggested that the Heap Bridge School building will become apartments.

486 housing units are proposed to be built across Bury Old Road, Bury New Road and the existing Heap Bridge Village School. There will be 440 three and four bedroom houses, 30 apartments and 16 bungalows across the three sites.

Resident Yvonne Hunt, who attended the presentation meeting, said: “I was very impressed with the presentation, very professional and lots of people to answer questions who really do know the answers for a change.

“The actual build of the proposed school is impressive, a really modern and sustainable building.”

Plans to build a new school were first mentioned to the public when residents of Bury Old Road received flyers through their doors six months ago.
