Spotlight on mental health

Date published: 11 October 2016

Transport leaders have pledged their support for Time to Change, a national campaign targeted at tackling the stigmas surrounding mental health.

To coincide with World Mental Health Day (10 October), Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has signed its formal Time to Change pledge – a public commitment to an ongoing programme of awareness-raising, staff engagement and management support centred on improving the mental wellbeing of its workforce.

Dr Jon Lamonte, TfGM’s Chief Executive, is the official signatory. He said: “I am really pleased to be able to make such a public show of support for the fantastic work being done by Time to Change.

“As an employer, we know that the health and wellbeing of our workforce has a direct influence on how well we perform – but, fundamentally, this is about doing the right thing, and about setting the right example.

“That is why we are committed to breaking down the barriers associated with mental health by raising awareness and actively engaging with colleagues, and by offering the right support at all levels within the organisation – in order to nurture an open and positive environment.”

The pledge is a key strand of TfGM’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and will see a range of staff workshops and seminars held, training provided to managers, and attendance management processes refreshed in line with best practice.
