New York stone paving on The Walk is almost complete

Date published: 10 October 2016

Work laying new York stone paving on The Walk is almost complete and the businesses on the thoroughfare are pleased with the results.

Ali Rashid, who works in Fishwick News, said: “The paving looks nice, much better than previous.

“Hopefully this will bring more business to Rochdale.”

Karamat Hussain, who owns Fishwick News, has also paid for his shop to be fitted with new windows after the shop was badly damaged during the Boxing Day floods.

Lesley Sharp, from Sayers the Bakers, said: “It’s nice that the path is even and not slippery. It’s better than the bricks that were here, but it could have had more character, like cobbles.”

Mr Ali, from Zulfi Newsagents, said: “It’s better than before.”

Dylan Cain, from the Vapour Store, said: “A job well done by Rochdale Borough Council now that it’s been levelled out. It dipped in the middle before.”

Johnny Burgess, from Timpsons, said: “The Walk looks brighter, better than the bricks that were there.”
