Ambition for Ageing launched by Mayor

The Ambition for Ageing programme launched by the Mayor Raymond Dutton and guests

The Ambition for Ageing programme was officially launched by the Mayor Ray Dutton at a ceremony on 5 October 2016.

Kashmir Youth Project (KYP) has been selected to lead the programme in Rochdale, in partnership with the Council for Voluntary Services Rochdale, Bangladesh Association and Community Project, Demesne Community Centre and Meadowfields Community Centre.

Mayor Dutton said: “It is pleasing to hear of this new initiative across our borough, involving five partners.

"The Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, as our name suggests, is a very diverse community which has so much to offer, both culturally and practically.

"KYP as Project Lead on this initiative has such a positive leadership team, I am sure the decision making will ensure success.

"For too long, our elderly in the Borough have been the forgotten society, often neglected and lonely. Hopefully ‘Ambition For Ageing’ will go some way to recognising their needs and ensure their insecurity and the feeling of ‘no one cares’ is ended.

"I whole heartedly support this project and wish it every success.”

KYP CEO Zulf Ahmed said: “Together, the partnership aims to develop creative approaches to reducing social isolation for older people in the three designated wards in the borough of Rochdale; Central Rochdale, West Middleton and Firgrove/Smallbridge.

"Older people will play a major role in the design of the programme and generate real and sustainable change in their communities by identifying local assets and choosing where investment should be made.”
