Woman hospitalised after driver flees scene of car crash on Oldham Road

Date published: 05 October 2016

Police are looking a driver who fled the scene of a car accident yesterday morning (Tuesday 5 October) at 8.10am at the junction of Durham Street and Oldham Road.

A grey Peugeot 307 was involved in a collision with a light Green Honda Civic. The driver of the Peugeot failed to stop at the scene and left on foot along the canal towards Milkstone Road.

The driver is a white man and is described as in his 20s, blond hair, black parka with furry hood, black tracksuit bottoms.

A woman believed to be in her 40s has been taken to Royal Oldham Hospital with head, neck and back injuries. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue cut her out of the car she was trapped in before she was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Two fire engines from Rochdale and a Technical Response Unit were on the scene for approximately 45 minutes, and a Rapid Response Unit also attended the incident.

PC Chris O’Connor, from GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “We have a number of leads from carrying out extensive CCTV enquiries and several witnesses thankfully came forward with extremely helpful information.

“I would urge the driver of the Peugeot to do the right thing and come forward to police.

“Anyone who knows the driver is also urged to call police on 101 or you can pass details onto Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
