Littleborough 10K

The runners in the Littleborough 10K were bathed in glorious autumn sunshine on Sunday (2 October).

Christopher Davies of Blackburn Harriers won the race, with just four seconds separating Billy McCartney of Salford Harriers and Rob James of Royton Road Runners in second and third. Two Rochdale Harriers took fourth and fifth, Danny Bennett and Richard Stirzaker.

The fastest woman to finish was Margaret Beever of Stainland Lions Running Club, she was followed home by Johanna Winks of Halifax Harriers, who just pipped Sophie Martin of Wharfedale Harriers to second place. Fourth was Lorraine Hopley of Rossendale Harriers and Angela Markley of Macclesfield Harriers was fifth.

The race started at Littleborough Raliway Station and headed up Hollingworth Road, past the the Waterside Restaurant. The route followed the edge of Hollingworth Lake and onto Rakewood Road before turning round and then round the back of the lake to the Beach. Moving onto Milbury Drive the route crossed Milnrow Road and along Wildhouse Lane. The race continued towards Clegg Hall Lane running parallel to the canal and the runners came out near the level crossing at Smithy Bridge Rail station. Following a down hill run to Stopford Avenue the race continued down the street and joined the cycle path for a traffic free last half mile to the finish just before Railway Street.
