Cambridge University Trip

At 6.30am on Monday morning, fifteen of our Year 11 students departed school to visit Cambridge, experiencing all that the University has to offer.

Following an introduction to university life, our students debating skills were tested in a debate on sexism in Great Britain and school leaving age.

Following this the students were given a tour of the spectacular grounds of St John's College before engaging in a task on student budgeting. Pupils were then treated to a historical tour of Cambridge on a Punt along the river Cam. Safe to say the pupils were ready for an early night in anticipation of the next day's adventures.

Shawn Iheme said: "it was a massive confidence booster to hear from students who came from schools and backgrounds like ours that are here studying at the best university in the country. I particularly enjoyed the talk on medicine which is a career I’m really interested in.

"It has given me a really big push to come back to school and do my best and aim high."

Nadine Nimely, Head Girl said "I didn't think I would fit in at 'posh' Cambridge University but it was very inspirational hearing people talk about their experiences here. I particularly enjoyed finding out more about Cambridge and all it has to offer and it has made me even more determined to do well and attend university."

Industry Mentor Scheme

Alice and Louise from Brightside joined some of our Y10 boys this week to enrol them on an industry mentor scheme. The boys will receive a successful mentor from the world of industry to guide them through their studies. From advice on studying to reading through personal statements, the monitors will be with our boys every step of the way. The boys have made a brilliant start to the programme.
