Middleton Rotary Club Past President Sue Furby presented cheques to Thelma Maynard representing Ovacome (Ovarian Cancer support) and Denise Blagg from Communic8te for Deaf and Hearing Impaired People, totalling £2,000.
The money had been raised by the Rotary Club for Sue’s chosen charities during her presidential year.
“Ovacome is close to my heart, having lost my mum to ovarian cancer in 1992 so I wanted to support women and their families who have been touched by this illness. I also wanted to support a local charity and chose Communic8te for the Deaf, where I volunteer as a fundraiser.”
Various fundraising activities helped to raise the money, including a Music Night held at North Manchester Golf Club, raffles and some personal donations.
“It wasn’t all about the money.
“Rotarians brought in wool for the Communic8te Wool Appeal and also donated prizes for a tombola held in the Millgate Centre Bury.
“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported my 2 charities. It’s great to see that people care.”
Thelma Maynard said: “Generosity is a golden light that emits straight from the heart and I would like to thank Middleton Rotary Club for their generosity.”
Denise Blagg also thanked the Rotary Club, she added: “This money will go a long way to helping reduce loneliness and isolation amongst our older deaf and hearing impaired members.
“We can now offer transportation to help get them out of the house to our social events. It will also go towards training members in first aid, hygiene and IT skills.”
