Lucy Greenwood raised over £1,000 pounds for one-year-old Gracie Greenwood by walking 17 miles from Littleborough Cricket Club to Eureka in Halifax on Saturday (10 September).
Gracie is currently battling a brain tumour, which was diagnosed when she was just 11 months old after she began to forget how to walk and talk and suffered with her co-ordination.
She underwent a 12 hour operation to remove the majority of the tumour, which was stopped as she lost a large quantity of blood. A biopsy later revealed that the tumour was cancerous.
Gracie underwent two further operations and spent her first birthday in hospital. On Thursday 1 September, she was taken for an emergency MRI which revealed the tumour had returned.
Gracie requires chemotherapy for one month before she will undergo another operation to remove the remainder of the aggressive tumour, which is located between two main arteries in her brain.
Lucy took on the challenge with her dog, Chloe, and friends Craig Lord, Kirsty Greenwood and Brook Murgatroyd. They completed the walk in 7 hours 30 minutes.
Lucy, who is a family friend of Gracie’s parents, Zak Greenwood and Lauren Doherty, said: “I wanted to help the family out as Zak’s job has been on hold since Gracie’s been in hospital. He’s not left her side.”
