A 27-year-old man has been airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital from Sandbrook Park, Rochdale after suffering severe burns to his legs and lower torso, this morning (Tuesday 13 September).

The man is currently in a critical condition after receiving burns to 45% of his body.

A spokesman from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: “We received the call at 11.19am and attended to extinguish him.

“He was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to the burns unit at Wythenshawe.”

A spokesperson for Frankie & Benny’s commented: “We can confirm that an incident occurred outside of our premises involving an external member of the public who was not a guest at the restaurant. Our team reacted quickly and involved the emergency services.

"This is now a police matter and would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.”

A police spokesperson said: "Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting 873 of 13/09/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
