Four in running for RBH members’ charity support

Date published: 09 September 2016

Four charities, Alzheimers Society, Rochdale and District Mind, Petrus Community and Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation, are in the running as Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) members choose a new members’ charity to support for the coming two years.

RBH members were invited to nominate their favourite charity to become the RBH members’ charity for the next two years. Of the 19 charities nominated, a shortlist of four was chosen by the tenant and employee members on the RBH Community Funding Panel.

  • The Alzheimers Society is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity. If selected, donations from RBH members will be used to help fund the 'side by side' service in Rochdale.
  • Rochdale and District Mind was established in 1988 by people with lived experience of mental distress. An independent charity, all funds are spent on delivering services locally, with service users actively involved in supporting the design of services.
  • The Petrus Community is a well-established local charity, providing high quality supported housing, day support and advice services for homeless and people in housing need. They operate activities which benefit the local community including community gardening and the Community Store, a large recycling operation.
  • Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation was launched in 2014 with one simple aim: more people playing rugby league more often. The foundation uses the power of professional sport to inspire children and adults to lead a healthier, fuller life and take a pride in their local community.

Which charity to support will be decided by voting at the RBH Annual Members Meeting on Saturday 17 September. Members can book their place at the meeting via the RBH website at www.rbh.org.uk or by calling freephone 0800 027 7769 (option 7). Members who are unable to attend the meeting can vote online by contacting the RBH membership team.

Sue Kershaw, RBH Membership Manager, said: “As a mutual society, our members will decide who to support for the next two years. We have four fantastic charities on our shortlist and we are all very excited to see who wins.”
