Families invited to baby memorial service

Date published: 08 September 2016

Families who have experienced losing their babies either before or shortly after birth are being invited to a special remembrance service at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The Baby Memorial Service will take place at 7.00pm on Thursday 15 September in the hospital chapel in the Chalmers Keddie building (opposite the grassed fountain area).

The short service will provide an opportunity to remember all babies that have died in any circumstances. It will include prayers, poems, music and the lighting of candles.

The service has been organised by hospital chaplains, alongside ward staff from maternity services, in partnership with The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS).

Rev Ian Inglis at The Royal Oldham said: “The remembrance service will offer families a chance to come together and remember their babies in a sympathetic and understanding environment. Some families will come to remember a recent loss. Others will come to remember a baby who died many years ago. Everyone is welcome to attend.”

Refreshments will be served after the service and members of SANDS and the chaplaincy team will be available to talk to.

SANDS offers support for families who have faced stillbirth or neo-natal deaths. They can be contacted on 020 7436 5881 or online at www.uk-sands.org
