Budding film director chooses Rochdale as location for debut 'James Bond' film

Date published: 06 September 2016

Jacob Juarez, a budding film director from Whitworth, has created his very own 'James Bond' film, ‘Risico’, using Rochdale as the primary location.

Mr Juarez, 18, cites his love for Bond films as the main reason why he chose to study film and media A-levels at Rochdale Sixth Form College.

His debut film production lends its name from a short Ian Fleming story of the same name and means ‘risk’ in Dutch.

The idea for his film developed after a college assignment required him to look at the action genre, further fuelling his aspirations to direct film and television.

He then decided to develop his short scene into a full length feature. Rochdale offered the specific looks he desired, such as the construction site uncovering the River Roch.

As the film had virtually no budget, he relied heavily on family, friends and volunteer actors to bring his production to life. Mr Juarez even acquired the use of an Aston Martin from one volunteer, Mr Coombe.

He hopes to release the completed film in late 2017/early 2018 having already filmed a teaser trailer.

Mr Juarez said: “Filming is an absolute joy to do, but meeting and working with new people to build a team is the icing on the cake.

“I’ve wanted to direct film and television since I received my first camcorder when I was ten.”

‘Risico’ has not yet been fully explored by any major production companies, although elements were used in the 1981 film For Your Eyes Only, starring Roger Moore.

Mr Juarez, who has started his own film and photography company, Blume Productions, plans to study film production at UCLan in Preston.

He has begun preparing for his next project, which he also wishes to film in Rochdale.
