Man arrested after woman shot in Middleton

A man has been arrested after a woman was shot in Middleton.

Shortly before 1.55am on Saturday (3 September), police were called to Cemetery Street, Middleton, to reports of a shooting.

Officers attended and found that a 33-year-old woman had suffered wounds to the leg and was taken to hospital for treatment. She remains in a stable condition.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

A hand gun has also been recovered.

Detective Inspector Lee Hopwood, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “I understand that an incident like this will cause concern and I want to reassure the community that we have increased patrols in the area.

“We have arrested one man in connection with this incident and recovered a firearm but our investigation continues.

“I would like to appeal to anyone with information that can help our investigation to contact the police.”
