Hundreds of people lined the streets of Heywood in glorious sunshine as Mayor Ray Dutton and Mayoress Elaine Dutton led the Heywood Charities Fete & Parade.

The parade, the theme of which was 'musicals', set off from Sefton Street, near Heywood Train Station and along Manchester Street to Queens Park.

Once in the park there were stalls, a fun fair and stage entertainment.

MayorDutton said: “I am so proud today to be Mayor, and come from Heywood, on a day like today, it is wonderful. The volunteers work so hard and yesterday was so wet, yet today the sun has come out.

“The parade just gets bigger each year, and this year is better than ever.

“I want to thank the Heywood Lions, Heywood Rotary, Friends of Queens Park and all the other volunteers, without them this just wouldn’t be possible.”

Frank Hauxwell, from the Rotary Club of Heywood, said: “It’s gone really well, and it's a really nice day now. Everyone got wet yesterday setting up, but thankfully the sun has come out and the people of Heywood have come out to support us.

“I don’t know how much we will have raised, but it’s great to see so many people and families here.”

The Heywood Charities Fete has been running in one form or another since the 1930s.
